Kannon Village - Kannon no Sato

Other local industries with long histories include the manufacture of fan ribs from the Azumi River delta, textiles, and wood carvings in Kamitanyu, Maibara Town, Sakata County. Temples in the Kohoku region house many statues of the Kannon Bodhisattva, including the wooden eleven-headed Kannon standing statue (Heian period, national treasure) at Dogan-ji Temple (Mukogen-ji Temple) in Takatsuki Town, Ika County, and the region is known as the "Village of Kannon." The region is blessed with scenic spots such as Chikubu Island, and many ski resorts have been established.
