An insect of the family Polytminae (illustration) in the order Odonata. This damselfly is about 45 mm long and grows in shady ponds and their runoff water, and adults can be seen from May to August. Immediately after emergence, the body is noticeably yellowish brown, especially in females, but as they mature, the black-brown background shows blue-green or yellow-green stripes. It is commonly seen from Hokkaido to Kyushu, and is also distributed from the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and China to Thailand and Malaysia. The tibiae of the middle and hind legs of the male are slightly wider and white, but do not spread significantly like those of the Gumbai-Dragonfly.

トンボ目モノサシトンボ科の昆虫（イラスト）。体長45mmくらいのイトトンボで，木陰のある池沼やその流出水に育ち，5～8月に成虫が見られる。羽化直後の個体は，とくに雌では体が著しく黄褐色を帯びているが，成熟すれば黒褐色地に青緑色または黄緑色の条斑を示すようになる。北海道から九州までふつうに見られ，また朝鮮半島，台湾，中国よりタイ，マレーシアにかけて分布する。雄の中･後肢の脛節（けいせつ）は少し幅広く白色となるが，グンバイトンボのように著しく広がることはない。
