Japanese: 雲量 - うんりょう

When the entire sky is covered with clouds, the cloud cover is given a cloud cover of 10, and the percentage of the sky that is covered by clouds is expressed as an integer between 0 and 10. It is generally determined by visual inspection, but sometimes a cloud cover meter or a fisheye lens all-sky camera is used. Cloud cover is determined regardless of the density or height of the clouds. Cloud cover is sometimes observed according to cloud type, or in three layers: upper, middle, and lower. To take into account the overlap of clouds, the sum of partial cloud cover (cloud cover by cloud type and layer) does not necessarily equal the total cloud cover. Clear means a cloud cover of 1 or less, fair means between 2 and 8, and overcast means 9 or more.

空全体が雲でおおわれている状態を雲量10とし，空全体に対する雲におおわれている部分の割合により０〜10までの整数で表す。一般には目視により決定するが，雲量計や魚眼レンズの全天カメラを利用することもある。雲量は雲の濃さや高さなどには無関係に決める。雲形別に，また上・中・下の３層に分けて雲量を観測することもある。雲の重なりを考えるため，部分雲量（雲形別や層別雲量）の和が全雲量と一致するとは限らない。快晴は雲量１以下，晴は２以上８以下，曇は９以上。
