This is an organic fertilizer made by rapidly converting municipal waste into fertilizer in a composting device, similar to compost. To convert household waste into fertilizer, it is necessary to separate and remove non-nutritional and hazardous materials such as plastics and metals, to accumulate and ferment the waste to kill pathogens and pests, and to remove odors. The content of fertilizer components varies considerably depending on the product, but the actual product is around 1.6% nitrogen, 1.0% phosphorus, and 0.9% potassium. It also generally contains high amounts of heavy metals such as copper, mercury, lead, and zinc. The amount of waste generated is increasing due to the increase in urban dwellers and changes in lifestyle, and the amount of municipal waste compost used is increasing year by year.

都市ごみをコンポスト化装置で急速に肥料化したもので、堆肥などと同様の有機質肥料である。家庭から排出されるごみを肥料化するには、プラスチックや金属など肥料養分とならないものや危険物を分別除去し、ごみの中の病原菌や害虫を堆積発酵させ死滅させるとともに、悪臭を除去することが必要である。肥料成分の含有量は製品によってかなり変動するが、現物中で窒素1.6%、リン酸1.0%、カリウム0.9%前後である。また、銅、水銀、鉛、亜鉛などの重金属含量も概して多い。都市生活者の増加と生活様式の変化からごみの排出量は増加し、都市ごみコンポストの使用量は年とともに増大しつつある。
