A rocket-powered aircraft. It does not require air and has the advantage of being able to generate extremely large thrust with a small, lightweight engine, making it possible to fly at high speeds and altitudes that are impossible with jet aircraft. However, it consumes a huge amount of fuel and powered flight is limited to short periods of time, so in recent years it is only used for special research and experimental aircraft. Germany used the Messerschmitt Me163B interceptor in World War II.
