Chinoform

C ₉ H ₅ NOClI (305.52). Also known as 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-quinolinol. Light, pale yellow-white to pale yellow-brown powder. Has a slight, peculiar odor. Tasteless. Melting point: approx. 175°C (decomposition). Easily soluble in hot glacial acetic acid and dimethylformamide, insoluble in water and ethanol. Deforms slowly when exposed to light. Disinfectant. It was discovered that this agent is closely related to the occurrence of SMON (subacute myelo-optic neuropathy), and in September 1970, the sale and use of chinoform and preparations containing it were suspended. C₉H₅NOClI(305.52)．5-クロロ-7-ヨード-8-キノリノール(5-chloro-7-iodo-8-quinolinol)ともいう．淡黄白色～淡黄褐色の軽質の粉末．わずかに特異な臭いを呈する．無味．融点約175 ℃(分解)．熱氷酢酸，ジメチルホルムアミドに易溶，水，エタノールに不溶．光によって徐々に変化する．殺菌剤．本剤がスモン(SMON，subacute myelo-optic neuropathy)の発生にきわめて深い関連をもつことがわかり，1970年9月にキノホルムおよびその含有製剤の販売および使用が停止された．[CAS 130-26-7]
