Azo pigment - azo pigment

Japanese: アゾ顔料 - アゾがんりょう（英語表記）azo pigment

A general term for organic pigments that have the azo group -N=N- in the molecule. While azo dyes are primarily used to dye textiles, azo pigments are insoluble in water, solvents, and vehicles and are used primarily as powders for coloring. They are primarily responsible for yellow to red coloring, and are largely contrasted in quantity with the phthalocyanine-based organic pigments that are responsible for blue to green colors. Most azo pigments are monoazo-based, with one azo group, but there are also disazo-based yellow pigments, which are dichlorobenzidine derivatives. In terms of chemical structure, there are insoluble azo pigments that do not have hydrophilic groups such as -COOH or -SO ₃ H, and azo lake pigments, which have these groups and are made into insoluble metal salts.

分子内にアゾ基－N＝N－をもつ有機顔料の総称。アゾ染料がおもに繊維の染色を目的とするのに対し，アゾ顔料は水，溶媒，展色剤(ビヒクル)に不溶でもっぱら粉体として着色に使用される。主として黄色～赤色系の着色を受けもち，有機顔料のうち青色～緑色を分担するフタロシアニン系と量的に大きく対比される。アゾ顔料の多くはアゾ基を1個もつモノアゾ系であるが，黄色顔料のジクロロベンジジン誘導体のジスアゾ系もある。化学構造の特徴として，－COOH，－SO₃Hなどの親水性基をもたない不溶性アゾ顔料と，これらをもち，それを不溶性金属塩としたアゾレーキ顔料がある。
