Medina del Campo (English spelling)
A city in the Castile-León region of central Spain. Population 14,228 (1978). It is the center of the surrounding agricultural region of Tierra de Campos, and agricultural product processing and livestock farming are thriving. In the mid-15th century, it was an international trade and financial center and was famous for hosting fairs. During the Comuneros Revolt in the early 16th century, it was one of the cities that opposed Charles V. Isabella I of Spain liked to stay in La Mota Castle (built in 1440), and she died here. Later, Cesare Borgia was also imprisoned here.
