Leader of the French Revolution. Born in Switzerland. Started as a doctor. In 1789, he published the newspaper Friend of the People, defending the revolutionary democracy of the Parisian people. He attacked the upper bourgeoisie of the National Assembly and the Girondists of the Legislative Assembly. He had a great influence on the sans-culottes. He became a member of the National Assembly and was a central figure in the Reign of Terror led by the Mountain faction, but was stabbed to death by Charlotte Corday while taking a bath after the establishment of the Mountain dictatorship.MaraSource : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
