Sansei

Japanese: 三清 - さんせい

Taoist heavens. Yuqing Heaven, where Yuanshi Heavenly Deity resides, Shangqing Heaven, where Taishang Daojun resides, and Taiqing Heaven, where Taishang Laojun resides. Each is endowed with the powers of Shiqi, Genki, and Xuanqi, and is ranked next to Dailuo Heaven, the highest level. The Sanqing theory, which sees these three gods, who have different origins in the creation of their powers, as one entity with the same origin, was formed in the 8th century, after the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. These three gods are also said to have bestowed the Taoist scriptures of the Dongzhen section, Dongxuan section, and Dongjin section, respectively. [Yoshikawa Tadao]

道教の天。元始天尊の住まう玉清天，太上道君の住まう上清天，太上老君の住まう太清天。それぞれに始気，元気，玄気が配当され，最上層の大羅天に次ぐ。がんらい成立の由来を異にするこれら3神を，本源をおなじくする一体のものとしてとらえる三清説の形成は，8世紀，唐の玄宗時代以後のこと。これら3神はまたそれぞれ洞真部，洞玄部，洞神部の道教経典を授けたとされる。【吉川忠夫】
