Kawai River - Enokawa

Japanese: 可愛川 - えのかわ

A river in the central and northern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The upper reaches of the Gogawa River. It is 98 km long. It originates in the Oasa Basin, passes through Kitahiroshima Town and Aki-Takata City, and flows northwest with other tributaries in the Miyoshi Basin, and then enters Shimane Prefecture to become the Gogawa River. During the Edo period, the area was used for the purpose of collecting iron sand, which caused the riverbed to rise and floods to occur frequently. In 1974, the Haji Dam was built in Yachiyo Town (now Aki-Takata City) to divert water to the coast of Hiroshima Bay.

広島県中北部の川。江川 (ごうがわ) の上流。全長 98km。大朝盆地に源を発し，北広島町，安芸高田市などを経て，三次盆地で他の諸支流を合わせて北西流，島根県に入って江川となる。江戸時代には，かんな流し (砂鉄採取) が盛んに行なわれ，そのために河床が上昇して洪水がしばしば起こった。 1974年八千代町 (現安芸高田市) に，広島湾岸に分水するための土師 (はじ) ダムがつくられた。
