[Died] 619. Mecca Muhammad's first wife. A wealthy widow who had been married twice, she saw the character and talent of Muhammad when he went to Syria to trade with her goods. The marriage provided Muhammad with mental and material stability, and became the basis for his activities as a prophet. She had three sons and four daughters with Muhammad, but all of the boys died young.
