...From this point on, the term "Yunnan" came to be used as a broad administrative region. In the Ming Dynasty, the system of local governors and governors, which governed according to the characteristics of each ethnic group while adhering to the will of the dynasty, was given more importance. In 1381 (Hongwu 14), the Yunnan Governor General was established, while feudal politics were promoted by utilizing the hereditary clan leader system. In 1659 (Shunzhi 16), Emperor Shizu of the Qing Dynasty established Yunnan Province, which was succeeded by the Republic of China in 1912.
