Reynolds

Japanese: レーノルズ
Reynolds
British painter. Born in Plimpton, Devonshire. He was the first president of the newly established Royal Academy in 1768, and served as court painter to King George III, and occupied a leading position in the British art world in the late 18th century. He specialized in historical paintings and portraits, and established a portrait style that combined the elegant style of Van Dyck with Rembrandt's chiaroscuro. Among his approximately 2,000 portraits, his most famous are Lady Sarah Bunbury Making an Offering to the Three Gods (1765, Art Institute of Chicago) and Lady Sarah Siddons as a Tragic Muse (1784, Huntington Library and Art Museum, San Marino).
