Korao people (English spelling) Gē lǎo zú

Japanese: コーラオ族(仡佬族) - コーラオぞく（英語表記）Gē lǎo zú

One of China's ethnic minorities. Population: 438,000 (1990). They are mainly found in western Guizhou Province, Longlin Autonomous County in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, where they live in a dispersed manner and mostly live with other ethnic groups such as Han, Miao, and Zhuang. The population of the Ge Lao was once larger than it is now, and their distribution range extended to the central and southwestern provinces of China, but they were gradually suppressed by other ethnic groups and assimilated. The names of Fenlibizhai, Fenlibichong, Fenlibufen, Fenlibijing, and Fenlibiao remain in various parts of Guizhou Province, indicating that these were once areas inhabited by the Ge Lao.

中国の少数民族の一つ。人口約43万8000(1990)。おもな分布地域は貴州省西部を中心に広西チワン(壮)族自治区の隆林各族自治県と雲南省文山チワン族ミヤオ(苗)族自治州などで，分散して居住し多くは漢族，ミヤオ族，チワン族など他民族と雑居する。かつてコーラオ族の人口は今より多く，分布範囲も中国の中南，西南各省に及んでいたが，しだいに他の民族に圧迫されたり同化融合していった。現在でも貴州省の各地に仡佬寨，仡佬沖，仡佬墳，仡佬井，仡佬橋の名が残っており，かつてコーラオ族が居住していた地であったことを示している。
