Requinto (English spelling) [Spain]

Japanese: レキント（英語表記）requinto[スペイン]

A small guitar that is usually tuned a fifth higher than a regular classical (Spanish) guitar. The etymology of the word also means "fifth higher". Therefore, it has a characteristic high-pitched tone, and when playing with a regular guitar, the requinto guitar often plays the main melody and its decorative variations. It is an instrument that has been played regionally in Spain and Central and South America, but the Mexican Trio Los Panchos has used it to great effect in singing boleros, and has spread it around the world.

小型のギターで，通常一般のクラシック(スパニッシュ)･ギターより5度高く調弦されるもの。語源も〈5度高い〉の意である。したがって張りのある高音が特色となり，レキント･ギターで普通のギターと合奏する際は，主旋律やその装飾的な変奏を受け持つことが多い。スペインおよび中南米で，地方により行われてきた楽器であるが，とくにメキシコのトリオ･ロス･パンチョスがボレロの演唱にこれを用いて効果を上げ，世界に広めた。
