In 18th-century Cairo, the Hussainiya district was connected to the Bayyūmi and Khalwati sects. As an example of a connection between a guild and a tariqa, the 18th-century Cairo butchers' guild was connected to the Bayyūmi sect, and Egyptian dancers had the saint Ahmad al-Badawi as their patron saint.
