HST - High-Speed Stewardess

Japanese: HST -
HST - High-Speed Stewardess

Abbreviation for High Speed Train. A streamlined diesel-powered fixed formation train that has been in commercial operation since 1976 as an express train by British Railways (1994-1997, divided and privatized). It has a centralized power system with both ends as motor cars and about eight trailer cars in the middle, and provides service between major cities, mainly in non-electrified sections. Express trains using HST can reach a high speed of 125 miles per hour (about 200 kilometers per hour), so they are called Intercity 125. They are electrically powered by a 2000 horsepower diesel engine. This train is also used in Australia.
