Yi Yong-gu
[Born] King Gojong 5 (1868)
[Died] 1912. Kobe Joseon, pro-Japanese politician in the final period of the Joseon Dynasty (Yi Dynasty). Born in Sangju County, North Gyeongsang Province. His first name was Gupil, later changed to Sangok and Mansik. His pen name was Haesan. He lost his father at a young age and helped his mother with farming, but at the age of 23 he joined the Donghak Party and fled to Japan in 1901 with its third leader, Son Byeong-hee. During the Russo-Japanese War, he organized the Shinpo-hoe to support the Japanese army, and in 1905 he became the second chairman of the Iljinhoe, and joined forces with Lee Wanyong and the Japanese Black Dragon Society to actively promote the annexation of Korea by Japan. In 1908 he was expelled from Donghak (Cheondogyo), so he founded the Samurai Cheonkyo and became its founder.

朝鮮,朝鮮王朝 (李朝) 末期の親日派政治家。慶尚北道尚州郡出身。初名は愚弼,のち祥玉,万植と改名。号は海山。幼少のとき父を失い,母を助けて農耕に従事していたが,23歳のとき東学党に加入し,光武5 (1901) 年東学党の3代教主孫秉煕 (そんへいき) とともに日本に亡命。日露戦争中,進歩会を組織して日本軍を援助し,同8年一進会の2代会長となり,李完用と日本の黒龍会と結んで日韓併合を積極的に推進した。同 11年東学 (天道教) を除名されたので,侍天教をつくり,その教祖となった。
