...The Suto (Mori) clan (Sudouji) clan, of the Northern House of the Fujiwara clan, with the surname Moribe. It began when Michikiyo, the grandson (or son, according to one theory) of Sutou Sukekiyo, called himself Kamata Gonno Kami. It is said that Sukekiyo took the name Morito, combining his real surname Fujiwara with his foster father's surname Moribe, and it is also said that he took the name Sutou because he was appointed Uma no Kami (chief horseman) as a reward for his military achievements under Minamoto no Yoriyoshi. His son Sukemichi served under Yoriyoshi's son Yoshiie in the Gosannen War (1083-87). Michikiyo was Sukemichi's son and a retainer of Minamoto no Tameyoshi. He was, so to speak, a hereditary retainer of the Minamoto clan, but the reason why Michikiyo called himself Kamata is unknown. ... *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Kamata Michikiyo" are listed below.
