〘Noun〙 A Shinto altar dedicated to Toshitokujin (the god of the year) . It is hung on the lintel that corresponds to the auspicious direction of the year, based on the belief that the god of New Year comes from the auspicious direction. It is remade every year, but some are permanent, and some are hung from the ceiling so that they can rotate in any direction. 〘名〙歳徳神(としとくじん)をまつる神棚。正月の神が恵方から来るという信仰に基づき、その年の恵方にあたる鴨居につるす。毎年作りかえるものであるが、常設のものもあり、天井からつるしてどの方角にも回るように作ったものもある。注連(しめ)、松竹を飾り、供物、灯火を供える。歳徳棚(としとくだな)。年神棚(としがみだな)。《季・新年》※俳諧・増山の井（1663）正月「年徳のかみえ方(エハウ)棚」
