A former town in Kanzaki County, eastern Shiga Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Echigawa River, most of the area is mountainous, part of the Suzuka Mountains, producing timber, rice, and konjac yam, and tea (Mandokoro tea) is also cultivated. Eigenji Temple is located in Koyasan. In February 2005, Higashiomi merged with Yokaichi City, Gokasho Town in Kanzaki County, Aito Town in Aichi County, and Koto Town to become a city.
