...The Syr Darya basin was occupied by the Khokand Khanate. Meanwhile, the Lesser Horde surrendered to Imperial Russia, which was aiming to advance into Central Asia. In 1735, Russia built the Orenburg Fortress and made it the base for Kazakhstan administration. In the second half of the 18th century, Kazakhstan strengthened its economic ties with Russia as a supplier of livestock products and a market for grain and industrial products. At the same time, Kazakhstan's dissatisfaction with its land being taken by the army, merchants, and settlers gradually grew.
