Following the nationalization of the British steel industry in 1963, 14 major domestic steel companies and their subsidiaries were consolidated under the Iron & Steel Act to form British Steel Corp., one of the world's leading integrated steel manufacturers, which was established in March 1967 and privatized in 1988. It is abbreviated as BSC (the former corporation also had the same abbreviation, BSC). The purpose of the corporation's establishment was to rebuild the British steel industry, which had lagged behind continental Europe and Japan in modernization, and to strengthen its international competitiveness.

1963年のイギリスの鉄鋼業国有化に伴い，鉄鋼法Iron & Steel Actにより国内の主要鉄鋼会社14社とその子会社を統合し，67年3月発足した世界有数の鉄鋼一貫メーカー，イギリス鉄鋼公社British Steel Corp.が88年民営化された会社。BSCと略称する(旧公社も略称は同じBSC)。公社設立の目的は，ヨーロッパ大陸や日本に比べて近代化に遅れをとったイギリス鉄鋼業の再建と，国際競争力の強化にあった。
