Yoneyama Jinku - Yoneyama Jinku

Japanese:
Yoneyama Jinku - Yoneyama Jinku

A folk song from Niigata Prefecture. Yoneyama is a sacred mountain on the border between Kashiwazaki and Joetsu, with a Yakushido temple on the summit, and the original song is a lyric that praises the Yoneyama Yakushi. It is said to have been sung at the opening of the Yoneyama mountain, but the exact date is unclear. It is also said to have been named after a sumo wrestler named Yoneyama from Arahama Village, Kariwa County (present-day Kashiwazaki City), who started singing the song in Edo. In any case, it has been popular in the Kashiwazaki and Naoetsu regions since the Edo period, and since the Meiji period it has been often sung as a parlor song in the entertainment circles of the prefecture and Tokyo. The form of the song is simple, with the first and second verses being the same, but the verses are detailed and well-received by amateurs and experts alike, and it maintains enduring popularity nationwide.
