An arthropod (illustration) of the Arachnidae family. One of the few scorpions that have taken root in Japan. Medium-sized, 5-7cm long, with a long tail. Its back is clay yellow with complex dark brown spots, as its name suggests. It is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, but in Japan it is only found on the Miyako Islands, Yaeyama Islands, and Ogasawara Islands. It may land in ports on Honshu, hidden in cargo, but it does not take root. Its venom is weak, and a sting will not cause death to humans.
