Ministry of Justice Law School

Ministry of Justice Law School
A legal education institution established within the Ministry of Justice in the early Meiji period to train judicial officials. The creation of a new legal system following the Meiji Restoration was carried out in the form of adopting the modern legal systems of France and other Western countries, which was also a prerequisite for treaty revision. For this reason, it was essential to train many judicial officials who could understand this modern legal system and actually operate it. The Ministry of Justice, established in 1871 (Meiji 4), was one of the first to open the Meiho-Ryo and its successor, the Ministry of Justice Law School (consisting of a regular course and an accelerated course) within the ministry, and began full-scale legal education to train judicial officials.
