An old city in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. The eastern and western parts are plateaus, and the Konuma irrigation canal flows through the lowlands in the center. The city developed as a post town on the Kamakura Kaido road in the Middle Ages, and as a post town and market town in the early modern period. Yono Station on the Tohoku Main Line was opened at the eastern end in 1912, and urbanization centered around the station. In 1985, the Saikyo Line ran through the center of the city, further promoting residential development. Automobile-related and general machinery industries are thriving, and automobile sales are the main business in commerce. In May 2001, it merged with Urawa City and Omiya City to form Saitama City. 8.29 km2 .
