A former town in Tome District, northern Miyagi Prefecture. It was once a low-lying marshland downstream of the Hasama River, but after cultivation it has become one of the prefecture's leading rice-producing areas. It is also the prefecture's leading producer of piglets. In April 2005, it merged with Hasama Town, Tome Town, Towa Town, Nakata Town, Toyosato Town, Ishigoe Town, and Minamikata Town in Tome District, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi District, to become a city, Tome City. 51.19 km2 . 宮城県北部，登米(とめ)郡の旧町。迫(はさま)川下流の低湿地であったが，開墾されて県下有数の米産地となった。子豚の生産についても，県内の主産地となっている。2005年４月登米郡迫町，登米町，東和町，中田町，豊里町，石越町，南方町，本吉郡津山町と合併し市制，登米市となる。51.19km2。１万1218人（2003）。
