A French political party. Its official name is the National Federation of Independent Republicans. It was founded in 1966 by Giscard d'Estaing, a member of the liberal right-wing parliamentary group of the Fourth Republic. It was a quasi-ruling party under the de Gaulle regime, and represented the interests of modern corporations in the fields of industry and finance. In 1974, following the sudden death of President Pompidou, who had inherited the de Gaulle regime, Giscard d'Estaing won the election to succeed him, narrowly beating the left-wing candidate Mitterrand in the runoff vote, and formed a ruling party with the de Gaulle faction.

フランスの政党。正称は独立共和主義者全国連盟Fédération nationale des républicains indépendants。第四共和政の自由主義的右派議員グループの流れをくみ，そのうちの一部が1966年ジスカール･デスタンV.Giscard d’Estaingを中心に結成した。ド･ゴール体制の準与党的立場で，産業･金融などの近代的企業の志向を代弁していく方向をとった。74年ド･ゴール体制を受け継いでいたポンピドゥー大統領の急死によって行われた後任選挙で，ジスカール･デスタンが左翼統一候補ミッテランを決選投票でわずかに上回って当選，ド･ゴール派とともに与党を形成した。
