Odaka [town]
An old town in Soma County, eastern Fukushima Prefecture. Odaka in the center was the castle town of the Soma clan in the Middle Ages, and in early modern times it was a post station on the Rikuzenhama Kaido road. The Joban Line runs through the town. The town produces rice and vegetables, and also cultivates silkworms and livestock. The Nomaoi Nomakake Shinto ritual is held at the remains of Odaka Castle. In Izumisawa there are the large rock-carved Yakushido stone Buddha (historic site) and Kannondo stone Buddha (historic site). In January 2006, it merged with Haramachi City and Kashima Town in Soma County to become a city, Minamisoma City. 91.95 km2 . Population 13,731 (2003).
