A former town in Miyako County, eastern Fukuoka Prefecture. It spreads across the mountainous region north of Mt. Hiko and the basin along the Imagawa River. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, producing rice, wheat, soybeans, etc., and greenhouse cultivation is also popular. High-quality timber such as cedar and cypress is also produced. The main settlement, Honjo, is on the Heisei Chikuho Railway Tagawa Line, and many people commute to Tagawa City and Kitakyushu City. In March 2006, it merged with Katsuyama Town and Toyotsu Town in Kyoto County to become Miyako Town in Kyoto County. 98.00 km2 . 7,744 people (2003). 福岡県東部,京都(みやこ)郡の旧町。英彦(ひこ)山北部の山地と今川沿いの盆地に広がる。農林業が主で,米,麦,大豆などを産し,ハウス栽培も盛ん。スギ,ヒノキなどの良材も産する。主集落本庄は平成筑豊鉄道田川線が通じ,田川市や北九州市への通勤者も多い。2006年3月,京都郡勝山町,豊津町と合併し町制,京都郡みやこ町となる。98.00km2。7744人(2003)。
