Chemical formula: Hg ₂ N(OH)･2H ₂ O. When yellow mercury oxide is reacted with concentrated aqueous ammonia without carbon dioxide in the dark for 14 days, it is obtained as a bright yellow precipitate. Specific gravity: 4.08. Cubic crystal system. a = 9.58 Å. In crystals, it has a structure similar to quartz, with the Si in quartz replaced by N and the O by Hg, as shown below. Four mercury atoms are coordinated around N in a regular tetrahedron, and the N-Hg-N is a straight line. OH ^- and H ₂ O penetrate into this network structure.

化学式Hg₂N(OH)･2H₂O。黄色酸化水銀を二酸化炭素を含まない濃アンモニア水と暗所で14日間反応させると鮮黄色沈殿として得られる。比重4.08。立方晶系。a＝9.58Å。結晶中では石英に似た構造をもち，石英のSiをNで，またOをHgでおきかえた，次に示すような構造をしている。Nのまわりに4個の水銀原子が正四面体に配位しており，またN－Hg－Nは直線である。OH^－やH₂Oはこの網目構造の中に入りこんでいる。
