Year of death: September 26, 1921 Born: November 10, 1854 A missionary of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the South in the United States during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Born in Shanghai as the eldest son of missionary JW Lambuth. He graduated from Emory and Henry University in 1875 and Vanderbilt University in 1877, studying theology and medicine. He married in the same year and was immediately appointed as a missionary. After serving as a medical missionary in China, he was transferred to Kobe with his parents in 1886. The "Reading House" he established in the settlement developed into Palmore Academy and Kwansei Gakuin, and he served as the first president of Kwansei Gakuin. He also contributed to the establishment of the Kobe Women's Missionary School (one of the origins of Seiwa University), which was established by his mother, IM Lambuth, and Hiroshima Jogakuin. In 1892, he was appointed director of the Overseas Mission Bureau of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the South, and in 1908, he was appointed bishop, and worked in Cuba, Mexico, Africa, and other places, playing an active role as a central figure in the sect's global missionary work that did not stop in Japan.
