It is a member of the order Artiodactyla and family Bovidae. It is also called the greater kudu. It is found in the Sudan and southern Africa, living in the light forests and scrub forests of the savanna. It is the second largest antelope after the eland, reaching 1.3-1.6 meters at the shoulder and weighing 180-315 kg. Only males have horns, which are about 1.2 meters long and twisted like a corkscrew. Their bodies are blue-gray or reddish brown, with white horizontal stripes on their torsos. They live in small groups or family groups of 4 or 5 individuals, and mainly eat tree buds and leaves. The gestation period is 7-8 months, and they give birth to one calf before the rainy season. The smaller lesser kudu T. imberbis , about 1 meter at the shoulder, lives in the wastelands and bushes of Kenya and Somalia. Its habits are similar to those of the kudu.
