Italian architect. He designed Palazzo Durazzo Pallavicini (1618) and Palazzo Balbi Senarega (completed by Corradi in the 18th century) in Genoa. He also worked on the construction of fortresses and harbors, but his greatest work was the University of Genoa (1634-38), originally built as a seminary for the Jesuits, where he carved a series of terraces into the steep slope to create dramatic spaces. He was deeply influenced by the 16th century architecture of R. Lurago and others, but he also established the austere character of Genoese Baroque.
