Surya-siddhanta (English spelling)

Japanese: スールヤ･シッダーンタ（英語表記）Sūrya‐siddhānta

A classical Indian astronomy text. Two books are known with the same title. One was written by Lāṭadeva, a disciple of āryabhata (476-?), based on the ārdharātrika school, but it remains only as a quotation by Bārāmihira. The other was written in the 8th or 9th century and its author is unknown, but it is a good combination of various schools of thought and is well organized, so it has become extremely popular. The term "Suryasiddhanta" usually refers to the latter.

インドの古典天文学書。同じタイトルで二つの書物が知られている。一つはアールヤバタ(476‐？)の弟子ラータデーバLāṭadevaが，アールダラートリカĀrdharātrika学派に基づいて著したものであるが，バラーハミヒラによる引用でしか残っていない。もう一つは8～9世紀に著されたもので著者は不明であるが，いろいろな学派をうまく折衷しており，よくまとまっているのできわめてよく読まれるようになった。ふつう《スールヤ･シッダーンタ》というときは後者をさす。
