Minehama [village] - Minehama

Japanese: 峰浜[村] - みねはま

A village in Yamamoto County, northwest of Akita Prefecture. Population 5,218 (1995). It straddles the northern Noshiro Plain and the Shirakami Mountains, and the JR Gono Line and National Route 101 run along the coast of the Sea of Japan. The main settlements are Sawame, which is located on sand dunes and has a Gono Line station, and Hanawa, which is on the hills. Until World War II, the area was a breeding ground for military horses, and the vast hills of Otsukino and Onodai were used for grazing. Rice was grown on the river terraces of the Mizusawa and Hanawa rivers and on the alluvial land downstream, and pears were cultivated on the sand dunes called Kachikidai. The agricultural infrastructure was also developed by utilizing the tunnel irrigation channel from the Subari Dam (Fujisato Town) on the Kasuge River.

秋田県北西部，山本郡の村。人口5218(1995)。能代平野北部と白神山地にまたがり，日本海の海岸沿いにJR五能線と国道101号線が通じる。主集落は砂丘地にあり五能線の駅がある沢目と，丘陵地の塙（はなわ）。第2次大戦までは軍馬の産地であり，広大な丘陵地の大槻野，大野台は採草放牧地に利用された。水沢川と塙川の河岸段丘や下流の沖積地で米作，カッチキ台とよばれる砂丘で梨栽培が行われ，粕毛（かすげ）川の素波里（すばり）ダム(藤里町)からのトンネル用水路の活用によって農業基盤の整備も進められた。
