In large-scale civil engineering projects, when a single company has difficulty winning the contract due to financial or technical limitations, multiple companies cooperate to undertake the work. It is abbreviated as JV and translates as a joint venture. The French word consortium is also used. Joint ventures are said to have started in 1930 when six companies cooperated to bid on the construction of the Hoover Dam in the United States, because the project was too large for one company to carry out. Since then, similar civil engineering projects have become common in the United States. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
