Hispaniola [island] - Hispaniola
An island in the West Indies southeast of Cuba. Also called Hispaniola, Haiti, or Santo Domingo. The western part of the island is made up of Haiti, and the eastern part is made up of the Dominican Republic. It is mountainous and has a relatively warm climate. Mount Duarte (3,175m), the highest peak in the West Indies, stands in the center of the island. Columbus arrived there in 1492. It has an area of ​​76,000 km2 .
