...As preservation organizations, Italia Nostra was established in Italy in 1956, the Civic Trust in 1957, and Civitas Nostra in 1964 in Italy, the UK, and France, respectively, and are useful for the wide-area exchange of information. An event that unified the movement throughout Europe was the designation of 1975 as the "European Year of Architectural Heritage," which saw various events being held and the "Amsterdam Declaration" on the preservation of urban landscapes and heritage sites being compiled. UNESCO also compiled the "Nairobi Recommendation" in 1976 (Recommendation on the Preservation and Contemporary Role of Historic Areas). ...
