A village in Kanzaki County, northern Saga Prefecture. It can also be read as Mitsuze. Population 1,738 (1995). The northern part of the town is lined with the ridges of the Sefuri Mountains, and it borders Fukuoka Prefecture. Surrounded by mountains, it forms a basin-like topography, and three rivers, the Hatsuse River, the Kase River, and the Takase River, flow through it, and empty into the Hokuzan Reservoir, which straddles Fuji Town in Saga County in the southwest. During the Sengoku period, the castle of the Kumashiro clan, who established their power in the mountainous area of northern Hizen and competed with the Ryuzoji clan for supremacy, was located in Shiyuku, and at the castle ruins there is a stone shrine dedicated to the victory of the Kumashiro clan.
