Johannes Duns Scotus
Around 1265-1308
A scholastic philosopher and theologian from Scotland. After entering the Franciscan order and studying at the University of Paris, he lectured on Peter Lombard's De Propositions at Cambridge, Oxford, and the University of Paris, and in 1305 became a professor at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Paris. Two years later, he moved to Cologne, where he died. In addition to his major work, De Propositions (three types), he wrote commentaries on the First Elements, which argued for the existence of God without strict metaphysics, the De Propositions, which discussed the triune God, God's omnipotence, and the problems of will and action, and some of Aristotle's works.
