The name of the northern part of Kamo-cho, Soraku-gun, Kyoto Prefecture. It is also written as "Hara", "Mikahara" or "Mikahara". In ancient times, it was a key route from Nara to Iga and Shigaraki in Omi. The first historical document to mention this area in the Six National Histories is that Emperor Genmei visited the Migahara Imperial Villa on June 23, 713 (Wadō 6). This is where Emperor Shomu built Kunikyo, Yamashiro Kokubunji Temple and Kokubunji Nunnery. Excavations are being carried out by the Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education, Kamo-cho Town, and others, and the whole picture is gradually becoming clear. After the Heian period, the villa and temple were abandoned, and the area was turned into a manor called Migahara Manor. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
