...Banana plantations and other areas are heavily damaged by flying foxes. In Japan, three species live: the Erabu flying fox and the Okinawa flying fox in the Ryukyu Islands, and the Ogasawara flying fox in the Ogasawara Islands. The Okinawa flying fox has not been recorded as having been collected since it was discovered in 1870 (Meiji 3), and is therefore considered to be extinct.
