A former town in Kamikita District, southern Aomori Prefecture. The Oirase River runs through the center of the town. In addition to producing rice, the town also raises beef cattle. The town is bordered by Mount Hakkoda to the northwest and Lake Towada to the southwest, with the western half of the town included in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, home to the Oirase Gorge and hot springs such as Tsuta, Sarukura, and Yachi. 青森県南部,上北郡の旧町。奥入瀬(おいらせ)川が町の中央部を貫流する。米を産するほか,肉牛の放牧も行う。北西は八甲田山,南西は十和田湖に及び,西半分は十和田八幡平(はちまんたい)国立公園に含まれ,奥入瀬渓流や,蔦(つた),猿倉,谷地などの温泉がある。2005年1月十和田市へ編入。371.81km2。5993人(2003)。
