Mikabu green rocks

Green rocks that make up the main part of the Mikabu belt. In the outer belt of southwestern Japan, between the Sanbagawa metamorphic belt and the Chichibu belt that runs parallel to it to the south, a narrow belt-like area mainly made up of green rocks is intermittently distributed. This is called the Mikabu belt, and the green rocks that make up the main part of it are called the Mikabu green rocks. They are basalt or gabbro that erupted and intruded into the seafloor and were metamorphosed at relatively low temperatures, producing pumpellyite, actinophane, chlorite, and other rocks. The parent rocks of basalt and gabbro were once thought to be syntactic intrusive rocks that intruded during the formation of the Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks. However, the current theory that is widely accepted is that they are a type of sedimentary rock formed by the accumulation of debris from the collapse of basalt on the seafloor.

御荷鉾帯の主体をなす緑色岩類。西南日本の外帯で、三波川(さんばがわ)変成帯とその南側に並走する秩父(ちちぶ)帯との間に、緑色岩を主とした狭い帯状域が断続しつつ分布している。これを御荷鉾帯といい、その主体をなす緑色岩類を御荷鉾緑色岩類という。それらは、海底に噴出・貫入した玄武岩ないし斑糲(はんれい)岩が、比較的低い温度で変成作用を受けたもので、パンペリー石、アクチノ閃(せん)石、緑泥石などが生成している。原岩の玄武岩や斑糲岩は、三波川変成岩の生成に伴って貫入した変動時貫入岩と考えられたこともあった。しかしいまでは、海底の玄武岩類が崩壊した際の破砕片が堆積(たいせき)して形成された、ある種の堆積岩類であるという考えが有力である。
