Mankou - Mankou

Japanese: 満功 - まんこう
Mankou - Mankou
The name of the mother of the Soga brothers. Or the name of the monk who founded sacred mountains in various places, such as Jindaiji Temple in Chofu, Tokyo. Manko can also be written as Manko (E, Red) or Manko (Prince). Many kabuki plays after "Bride in Izu Diary," which premiered at the Ichimura Theater in 1724 (Kyoho 9), and legends handed down in various places also refer to the mother of the Soga brothers as Manko. However, the mother's name is not recorded in "Soga Monogatari." In "To-o Gunki" and "Waga Ikki Shidai" (both of which may have been written in the early Edo period), the name of the daughter of Ito Nyudo Sukechika is given as "Manko Gozen."
