University of Naples (English name)

Japanese: ナポリ大学 - ナポリだいがく（英語表記）Università degli Studi di Napoli

It was founded in 1224 by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II as a rival university to the University of Bologna, which had close ties to the papacy. While Bologna was an autonomous university run by a student union, it is notable for being the first medieval university established by the universal authority of the emperor. It was recognized as the only university in the Kingdom of Sicily, excluding Salerno, and its citizens were prohibited from studying at other universities, but it did not flourish until the reforms of Charles de Anjou in the mid-13th century.

1224年に神聖ローマ皇帝フリードリヒ2世によって，教皇権と密接に関係したボローニャ大学に対抗する大学として設立された。ボローニャが学生組合主体の自生的大学であったのに対して，皇帝権という普遍的権力による最初の設立型中世大学として注目される。サレルノを除くシチリア王国唯一の大学として認められ，領民は他大学での修学を禁じられたが，大学が繁栄をみるのは13世紀中葉のシャルル･ダンジューによる改革以後である。
