Same-size mirror - Dohankyo

Japanese:
Same-size mirror - Dohankyo

A group of mirrors cast using the same mold. This is especially evident in triangular-rimmed god and beast mirrors. The molds are presumed to have been made from clay, and the order of casting can be determined from the damage, repairs, and modifications of the molds that can be seen in the products. Some people claim that triangular-rimmed god and beast mirrors were made using multiple molds made from the original model, as it is impossible to cast multiple mirrors using clay molds, and call these "mirrors of the same type," but this is not appropriate. Rather, it has been pointed out that a group of picture-and-text-belt god and beast mirrors from the late 5th century to the 6th century used this manufacturing method. However, since this also includes the original mirror, it is not appropriate to call them "mirrors of the same type." One theory that has attracted attention is that the ownership of triangular-rimmed god and beast mirrors of the same type may have led to close political ties between the people buried in the tombs in the Kinai region and those in the provincial areas who owned them. Furthermore, physicochemical analysis of the mirrors has revealed data showing that each one has different components, raising new questions.
